According to Bateman,.et al, "Leaders are born and not made; This is the traditional thinking about leadership but the best managers today seek leadership experience to develop their business knowledge, self confidence, and leadership skills.
1. DRIVE
Great leaders today should focus on high need for achievement, constant striving for improvement, ambition, energy, tenacity, persitance and initiative. This is seen in CEO's in some countries to be co-related with growth rates of their organizations.
2. LEADERSHIP MOTIVATION
Great leaders want to lead. So it helps to be extraverted-Extraversion relates to leadership emergency and effectiveness. But introverts have great strength as well. It's very important not to stereotype yourself with traits that could limit success. A leader should influence people in a moral, and socially contructive ways, he or she should inspire, respect, and have a commitment to their vision.
3. INTEGRITY
Great leaders should have integrity; Honesty and credibility in addition to desirable characteristics of their own right and be able to inspire trust in others.
4. SELF CONFIDENCE
This is important because leadership roles is challenging , and setbacks are inevitable. With self-confidence you'l be able to overcome obstacles and instill confidence in others.
5. KNOWLEDGE OF BUSINESS
Effective leaders have a high level of knowledge about their industries. companies and technical matters. Leaders must be capable of interpreting vast quantities of information and must have expertise in matters relevant to the organization"(236).
